GENERAL SUMMARY
To perform system engineering responsibilities including design, cost and implementation
schedules to help capture new projects and support existing projects for the company.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
• Design systems and networks based on customer requirements and specifications for
telecommunication systems, including voice, data video and security applications.
• Develop cost estimates for designed systems and networks including; equipment costs,
material costs, and installation costs.
• Work cross-functionally with other engineers in various disciplines to develop total
end-end solutions for customer requirements.
• Provide leadership on assigned projects to ensure system engineering design work is
completed per Adesta published standards.
• Participate in design reviews and project coordination meetings.
• Generate technical diagrams, engineering and as-built drawings, scopes of work, test
plans and procedures, implementation plans, project schedules, and bid packages.
• Interact with subcontractors, vendors and suppliers as required to develop a
complete and cost effective solution on behalf of ADESTA customers.
• Write clear and convincing proposal text with sufficient detail to describe designs
in response to customer requirements in order to win new business.
• Provision, configure, turn-up, and test system components and integrated solution to
ensure entire end-end system performs to customer specification.
• Perform verification testing on new systems, integrate them with existing equipment
and systems, and activate them for service.
• Continually survey the market for new system technologies that can benefit ADESTA
clients from a capital and operating expense perspectives.
• Develop standard system engineering design “templates” that other
Engineers can use as a starting point to perform similar system engineering work for
clients.
• Work with the business development department to market the services of the company,
develop new markets, meet with customers, and make effective presentations as requested.
• Other duties as assigned by supervision.
Qualifications:
Must have a Bachelor of Science degree or a minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience in
system engineering and designing “end-to-end” telecommunication solutions or
network solutions for carriers and enterprise clients, or in an applicable field. An
acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Must
possess a valid state issued driver’s license. In addition must have the following
skills:
• Proficient with software tools such as Microsoft® Excel, Word, PowerPoint,
Visio, and Project. Computer aided design experience is considered a plus.
• Must have good communications skills, both oral and written.
• Must have the ability to train and mentor other employees.
A U.S. Department of Defense secret level clearance will likely be required by the candidate
if the department or work location deals with security installation work.
SPECIALIZATION REQUIREMENTS
Must possess strong knowledge in one or more specializations.
Telecommunications
• Knowledgeable in designing transmission systems involving single-mode fiber optic
technologies, including SONET, ATM, Optical Amplification, Optical Networking, DWDM
technologies, and Ethernet.
• Knowledgeable in designing wireless networks, including licensed and unlicensed
microwave.
• Possess knowledge in routing, switching, Ethernet, TCP/IP, addressing, and other
LAN/WAN technologies.
• Understanding of device configuration requirements, and interoperability
• Knowledgeable in network management systems
• Knowledgeable of traditional TDM/SS7 based voice networks, systems and architectures
• Knowledge of newer VoIP network architectures, including signaling gateways and soft
switches and SIP/MGCP signaling protocols.
• Knowledge of CPE to deliver/terminate voice, data and video circuits/bandwidth to
customer’s point of demarcation.
• Knowledge of OSS and provisioning systems
Data Networking
• Has strong knowledge in routing, L2 switching, L3 routing, Ethernet, TCP/IP,
addressing, and other LAN/WAN technologies.
• Clear understanding of TCP/IP and UDP/IP addressing concepts and schemes and
bandwidth utilization.
• Understanding of MPLS routed networks
• Knowledge in the various Operating Systems and database requirements
• Possess skills in basic network troubleshooting
• Understanding of device configuration requirements
• Knowledge in SNMP based network management systems
• Cisco certification considered a plus
Security Systems
• Knowledge in access control systems including the following: gate control, door
control, card readers, central software control, remote sensors, intercom systems, and
biometrics.
• Knowledge in intrusion detection systems including the following: passive infrared
detectors, microwave detectors, and fiber sense systems.
• Knowledge in a wide variety of cameras including the following: analog, digital,
thermal, fixed, pan/tilt/zoom, and networked.
• Knowledge in other CCTV systems components including the following: video
transmission equipment, video encoders, video multiplexers, video switchers, analog video
recorders, digital video recorders, video control software, and motion detection software.
Domestic US and overseas travel may be required, in which case the candidate must be able to
obtain and maintain a valid US passport.
Position is located in Omaha, NE. Candidate must be willing to relocate to Omaha.
