Buyer II
Position Description

The Buyer II will be responsible for achieving Ingram business goals and maximize profitability through efficient use of buying systems, analysis, market knowledge, attention to customer needs, and effective management of vendor relationships. This position will provide forecasts based on sales history of comparable titles, knowledge of market trends, and a thorough understanding of the impact of marketing and media on the title's sales potential.  It will be necessary to understand specific needs of customers and maximize sell-though while maintaining service levels on all titles.  The Buyer II will need to be able to work closely with the publishers to manage critical titles and work to develop and monitor profitable vendor relations.  There will be an expectation for the Buyer II to participate as a positive team player within the purchasing team and within the Ingram organization and provide leadership as a product expert and publisher contact. Requirements include a Bachelors degree and 3 years experience in book purchasing, book distribution industry or retail book environment OR the equivalency of 6 years of experience in book purchasing, book distribution industry or retail book environment.  The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of buying, publishing, (especially working with title forecasting), how books sell, and/or Automated Warehouse Replenishment (AWR) experience. The Buyer II will need to demonstrate an ability to use MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) to communicate effectively, analyze performance, and achieve business goals.    Strong communication, leadership, and management skills are preferred while being flexible, resourceful, creative, and able to work in a dynamic and evolving environment.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience defined as 6 years experience in book purchasing, book distribution industry or retail book environment
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in book purchasing, book distribution industry or retail book environment

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • 2 years work experience in the areas of buying, publisher working with title discounting, and/or how books sell
  • Work experience in Automated Warehouse Replenishment (AWR)
  • Work experience in publisher print forecasting
  • Demonstrate an ability to use MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) to communicate effectively, analyze performance, and achieve business goals
  • Demonstrate effective communication, leadership, and management skills while being flexible, resourceful, creative, and able to work in a dynamic and evolving environment
