Position Description
HDR is seeking a Solid Waste Engineer for our Anchorage office. The primary duties of this position include all aspects of engineering for solid waste facilities including municipal solid waste landfills and waste transfer stations with an emphasis on system planning, engineering analysis, cost estimating, design, and specification preparation. Specific duties include: Managing small to medium multi-discipline projects or portions of large projects; Coordinating the work of professional staff and subconsultants throughout the project; Performing engineering functions and completing project tasks; Coordination with clients in the execution of the work; Participating in reviews with various governing agencies for compliance; Conducting work sessions for design development and design document preparation in conjunction with other staff and subconsultants. Provide engineering expertise in areas including detailed system calculations, drawing production, specification writing and editing. Participate in decision-making on significant design and engineering procedures. Have engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: slope and seismic stability, geosynthetics design and QC; leachate management, facility water balance, soils properties, construction techniques, Other construction materials (concrete, asphalt, etc.); Piping and pumping systems; Preparation of construction documents (municipal and state formats), and Engineering estimates. BS in Civil Engineering or related field. PE required. Alaska PE preferred. At least 5 years of experience in planning and engineering. Demonstrated leadership skills.
Experience with Alaska solid waste regulations, cold regions engineering, and Alaska earthwork construction will be considered a plus.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and LandDesktop/Civil 3D. Excellent writing, spreadsheet and verbal communication skills.
