Position Requirements:

• Requires college level completion of A&P, Biology, Disease Process, and Medical Terminology.
• Requires knowledge of ICD_9 Coding.
• Requires 3-4 years medical coding experience or RHIT/RHIA license.

Position Duties:

• Assigns ICD-9CM medical codes and CPT codes to Methodist Hospital and Children’s Hospital Inpatients, outpatient surgery, rehab and skilled medical records to ensure maximum reimbursement and a valid data base utilizing UHDDS definitions of prinical and secondary diagnosis and principles of code assignment.
• Enters diagnosis and procedure codes into PRS to maintain Disease and Operation in dex and to allow for timely submission of claims to insurance companies by accessing computerized abstract and keying in diagnosis and procedure codes, admitting diagnosis code regrouping to a DRG and entry of “C’s”.
• Ensures the availability of diagnosis and procedure codes to allow for timely submission of claims to insurance companies by performing job functions #1 and #2.
