POSITION PURPOSE:
Coordinate the coding and quality activities of the Health Information
Management Coding Department to include the evaluation, analysis, trending, and
validation
of coded data. Develop and present analysis outcomes to departmental and organizational
leadership. Participate in educating, training and follow-up to the coding specialists,
hospital staff and the medical staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates degree in Health Information Management
with RHIT credential or Associates degree in a health services discipline with a CCS
certification required. Bachelor degree in Health Information Management with RHIA
preferred. Minimum of 3 years experience in Health Information Management or a coding
related environment required; previous experience leading or managing day to day operations
of a function or group preferred. Knowledge, skills and abilities should include
demonstrated analytical abilities, supervision, statistical reporting, medical terminology,
ICD9CM, CPT and HCPCS Level II coding conventions, Anatomy and Physiology, Reimbursement
Methodologies, DRG, APC, CCI, LCD, NCD, charge master, UB 04 reimbursement knowledge,
coding software familiarity and effective written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel required. Proficient in Microsoft Access and
PowerPoint preferred. Knowledge of and experience with the use of the DRG/APC groupers
required. Prefer knowledge of Softmed and 3M Encoder software preferred.Demonstrated
ability to perform and maintain working relationships within the department and the
hospital to foster a team environment required. Must be a self-starter, exercise
independent problem-solving skills and manage job priorities in a self-directed manner
required.
